Friday Thoughts

Friday Thoughts

Hola from Huancayo!
Today we started the day with service work around the local school that consisted of several jobs including: weeding, brick moving, clearing overgrown areas, etc.  It was a hot day but everyone had joyful attitudes and childlike fun while serving.  This meant a lot to our host family because usually it's just the 2 of them doing all of the work.
Service

After service work we participated in a tradition they do.  Every Tuesday and Friday they get in a cold spring/waterfall.  It was super cold but so fun for everyone and we even washed our hair!  We continued our day with laying in the sun and card games before lunch.
Following lunch we went to the school to continue teaching 8-12 year olds english.  It's been such a joy seeing God's love through children that barely know us and have a language barrier.  It's been a challenge to teach but an amazing opportunity to serve in a different way we never have.

("Teaching" english also means being a pack mule.)  :)

Later that night we had a "hot seat", meaning that a student shares how they learned what love means growing up.  It's a great chance to share each others burdens and grow as a group.
Here's a quote from our reading today:
"Gratitude is the attitude which enables us to receive the hidden gifts of those we want to serve and to make these gifts visable to the community as a source of celebration." :)
Ciao!
