OCBP 2026: Week One

These words I have spoken to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. —John 15:11

The Ocean City Beach Project is in full swing, and many of you know we're about halfway through our first week of this faith-based outreach. Each morning begins with devotional reflections on John 15, as the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean bathes the sandy shores in golden light, and the surf begins to stir with the awakening of sea life. We take time to ponder what it truly means to abide in Christ—remaining in His presence, being enveloped by His love, and waiting patiently with Him. 

Students are discovering anew, and being reminded, that authentic leadership and meaningful action flow from being rooted in the divine source.

Throughout the week, students have poured out heartfelt concerns for the world and their  campuses. One student shared worries about the men in his athlete Bible study, hoping they would let God fill the void they try to fill with alcohol or peer pressure. Another opened up about struggles with forgiveness, seeking guidance on surrendering to God's healing.

During our reading of John 15, a student pointed out the link to 1 John, emphasizing that true love for God and genuine joy come from obeying His commands. On an outing to a local ice cream parlor, students engaged in heartfelt conversations and boldly shared their faith with strangers, seizing opportunities to evangelize. These moments showcase the transformational work already unfolding in the house this summer, even after just four days.

Despite the brief time, students are opening their hearts and forming authentic bonds filled with joyful enthusiasm—bonds deeper than I expected. The joy Jesus speaks of in John 15 is more than fleeting happiness; it’s a deep sense of contentment rooted in God’s promises, bringing peace regardless of circumstances.

The atmosphere is alive with joy, even amidst raw, vulnerable sharing. These gatherings foster sanctification, friendship, and a closer intimacy with God, shaping these young hearts for a lifetime.

Yet, even this abundant goodness and self-reflection offer only a glimpse of the glory to come when Jesus completes His restorative work. But already, we see sparks of divine justice, reconciliation, and sweetness breaking through here on earth.
