Second Saturday of Advent: Reflect

Second Saturday of Advent: Reflect

We’ve come to the end of the second week of Advent.

We’d like to offer you a moment to pause and reflect. We pray that God will use this time to bring to mind the stories that are connected to your story, and give you wisdom and peace as you sit with what you’ve received this week.

This week we read stories from Bob, Amy, Sam, Ariana, and Phil as we considered how God’s judgment can lead to healing and hope. As you think back over the week, here’s a brief reminder of what they each wrote about:

The reality of resurrection is not just a tiny morsel of hope in a world overflowing with grief. It is the ultimate hope, the ultimate remedy for all our afflictions, misery, and mourning.

—Bob Robinson, Death’s End

The invitation is to wait, watch for, and seek God’s peace—not peace as this world knows it, but Kingdom peace as described in imagery by Isaiah. Peace that permeates all of creation and all created beings.

And yes, our hope in God’s renewed world even touches snakes.

—Amy Oxendale-Imig, All Creation

Shorthand…is as neutral a skill as hanging gutters or teaching physical education. But as with all work in this now-but-not-yet time of Advent, how I employ my skills impacts the landscape and therefore how the LORD will (or will not) be revealed.

Preparing the way involves removing obstacles so that all people will see God’s glory. I either prepare the way or I don’t. I either make the path clearer or I don’t.

—Sam Van Eman, Prepare the Way

Advent readings like Isaiah 53 remind us that we are lost and cannot save ourselves. You cannot save your child. You cannot save your mother. You cannot save your unbelieving spouse or your beloved sister. You. Cannot. Save. Anyone.

This is good news! Because if it was up to us, we would fall short every time.

—Ariana Suggs, Hide and Seek

Advent season is a time to settle in our hearts this truth—though we live in the shadow of deserving wrath, God has revealed, and will reveal again, that although He was angry, He has chosen to come and comfort us.

—Philip Schiavoni, Deep Wells
