The program runs from early June to late July.
$2,100. You will have help support raising and earning money throughout the summer. A $200 deposit will be due upon your acceptance to Encounter Philadelphia. We do encourage you to raise your funds and we will work with you on how to reach full support.
Upon acceptance to the program, you will be sent a list of prospective employers and non-paid internship sites. You are encouraged to send your resume and make initial contact by phone prior to arriving in Philadelphia. The upper limit of hours worked will be 25 hours per week to allow for deep engagement in the community house.
We will have two three-hour sessions per week on various Christian topics and biblical issues taught by a variety of Christian speakers. You will be involved in group meals and recreation times, worship, and Bible studies. You will meet weekly for one-on-one discipleship with a CCO staff worker. You will receive a few books to read in preparation for what you will learn during the summer.
You should pack linens for a single bed, blanket or bedspread, pillow, towels, toiletries, a swimsuit (or two), a few nice outfits for church, nice summer clothes for work, casual/play clothes, a sweater or jacket for chilly nights, an alarm clock, a Bible, and a notebook. You may also find it helpful to bring a fan, a small lamp, and a small cardboard set of drawers, crates or a small trunk for storage. Feel free to bring sports equipment or games.
We will all live together in a large community house.
We all worship together at different churches around Philadelphia.
Twelve students will participate in the program, along with two or three CCO staff workers.
