Vince Burens named third President of the CCO

News | November 24, 2015

(Pittsburgh) November 24, 2015 — Vince Burens, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) will become President and Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2016. This decision was unanimously approved at the October 2015 meeting of the CCO’s Board of Directors.

Vince will succeed Daniel J. Dupee, who began his tenure as the CCO’s second president 17 years ago. Dan will continue to work with the CCO, taking over the role of Chairman of the Board.

Vince’s history with the CCO goes back to his first year as student at the University of Pittsburgh. The first member of his family to attend college, Vince was very young in faith at the time, but because his youth pastor connected him to CCO staff members, he found a place to grow. Shortly after graduating with his degree in urban development and political science, he chose to work for the CCO himself, ministering to students at Robert Morris University.

Vince met his wife, Lori, when they were both involved in the CCO’s ministry at Pitt. Vince, Lori, and their two daughters now live in Ben Avon, northwest of Pittsburgh, and they are active members of St. Stephen’s Church in Sewickley.

During his tenure with the CCO, Vince served as Director of Recruiting and Director of Staff Services before becoming Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. Since 2008, he has been working closely with Dan Dupee to lead the day-to-day operations of the ministry.

“Vince has been instrumental in taking our Jubilee conference to the next level and helping our staff work together more effectively for the good of the mission,” says Dan. “At the heart of Vince’s capable, passionate leadership is the desire to see students experience the kind of transformation he himself experienced as a student involved in CCO ministry at the University of Pittsburgh. He wants college students to love Jesus Christ and to serve Him with their entire lives.”

“As President, my top priority is to make sure we continue to help college students catch a vision for what I think of as The Good Life—good in a Kingdom-of-God way,” says Vince. “As CCO staff members invest in their lives and challenge them to grow in their faith, students catch a vision for what it means to truly live for Him. They become outwardly focused, toward the lost, the lonely, and the least of these. This is the transformation I want CCO ministry to be about in the lives of college students.”

The CCO is an organization committed to transforming college students to transform the world. The CCO calls college students to serve Jesus Christ with their entire lives. Currently, 261 CCO staff members are reaching out to students on 116 college campuses.
