Pitt student athletes recognized for service and scholarship
Two of the four University of Pittsburgh student-athletes to receive the ACC’s Top 6 for Service Award are also involved in the CCO’s ministry.
This honor is presented annually to student-athletes from each ACC institution who “demonstrate dedication to community service and outreach programs. The recipients have shown a willingness to help others and demonstrated a passion for wanting to enrich the lives of those around them.”
Wrestler PJ Tasser, who recently graduated from Pitt, was very involved in the Pitt athlete fellowship group and met weekly with CCO staff member Mark Steffey for a wrestlers’ Bible study. Football player Mike Caprara also spends a lot of time with Mark, traveled with CCO staff to Haiti twice, and serves as a student leader of the fellowship.
Senior Tyler Wilps, who was recognized with the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for the 2013-14 academic year, is a student leader of the CCO-sponsored athlete fellowship and participated twice in the spring Haiti mission trip.
