Jubilee 2016: 40 Years of Transformation

News | February 16, 2016

(Pittsburgh) February 16, 2016 — Thousands of college students will gather in downtown Pittsburgh at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center during the weekend of February 19-21 for Jubilee 2016, the annual conference hosted by the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach).

This is the 40th year that the CCO has hosted Jubilee, giving college students an opportunity to learn about what it means to serve Jesus Christ with their entire lives. Jubilee is the largest, longest consecutive running conference in Pittsburgh.

“I’ve known I wanted to be a scientist since I was 11, but I felt that I had to go into full-time pastoral or missions ministry to truly serve God,” says Dave Opalka, a 1998 graduate of Geneva College, who now works for Merck and Co., Inc. as Associate Director of the Analytical Development Team in the Global Vaccines and Biologics Department. “CCO staff and the Jubilee conference taught me that ministry can happen whatever you do. It can happen in science, business, or wherever.”

“Transform everything” is the theme of Jubilee 2016, and more than 80 speakers, authors, artists, and musicians will engage college students, challenging them to make a positive difference in the world by studying, working, playing, and living to God’s glory.

This year’s main stage speakers include Dr. Eric Mason, Founder and Lead Pastor Epiphany Fellowship in Philadelphia; Jena Lee Nardella, Co-founder of Blood: Water Mission; David Kinnaman, President of Barna Group; Gabe Lyons, Author and Founder of Q; and Rev. Rufus Smith, IV, Senior Pastor of Hope Church in Memphis. Visit jubileeconference.com to find out more about these and the rest of the speakers and artists who will be on hand for the weekend.

“To see the arts and sciences, culture and politics, as important arenas for Christian service is life-changing,” says Byron Borger, proprietor with his wife, Beth, of Hearts & Minds Bookstore, which sets up its store at Jubilee every year. “We can hardly think of anything more urgent than helping tomorrow's leaders relate the deepest things of faith and spirituality to the problems and possibilities of the day.”
